People often use comment sections on blogs to create inbound links for their websites. In order to stop the spamming attempt, the nofollow attribute and it could cause immense problems for people who want to develop their SEO assets. The spam problem seriously plagued the blogging the community that Google invented this attribute to deter the spam attemps. Many blogging platforms use the nofollow attribute as the default setting to deter people who make comments only to create inbound links. Today, the use of nofollow attribute already goes beyond the blogging community. Many website owners refer to external websites in their content, while enabling the nofollow attribute to avoid giving away SEO juice. Any SEO practitioner regularly checks whether a potential external website enables the nofollow attribute.

With the nofollow attribute, Google can also prevent spam in forums and social media pages. Without the nofollow attribute, people could easily make hundreds of dofollow links in their own Facebook or YouTube accounts. This is an efficient way to prevent people from circumventing the whole process. So, it makes sense that Google wants only genuine link structure. People who create links in a nofollow environment would do so, because they purely want to create links to genuinely refer people to external websites. However, website owners still have the ability to remove the default nofollow attribute and re-apply the dofollow status. This could happen if you want to attract people to create comments in your website. But the consequence is that you need to work hard to manually remove any spam.

Fortunately, the task of removing spammy comment should be easy, because you can use the filter plugin that automatically detects the usual patterns of spam, including specific keywords and keyphrases. The nofollow attribute is useful because it keeps order the online environment. People would be prevented from doing inappropriate things. Altering the nofollow attribute can be performed in the source code of the platform. Content management systems also have plugins that change the nofollow attribute in different parts of website, including the commen section. For SEO professionals, it is important to always check any inbound link that they get from reciprocal linking, article marketing and guest blogging.

If you get links with nofollow attribute from any of these inbound link sources, that it would be an unfair trade. With the introduction of nofollow attribute, any dofollow inbound link you find can become a valuable commodity. So, it will need to be traded with another inbound link or content with at least decent quality. A link shouldn’t only have a dofollow attribute, but should also a genuine linking purpose. It means that when users click the link, they will get real and actual benefits. It is actually a bad SEO practice to create or get dofollow links only for the sake of improving SEO performance. When Google finds that regular traffic passes through these dofollow links, these links can be seen genuine., instead of the typical SEO activity to boost search engine ranking.
